As a classical dressage trainer, for many years, my philosophy is to fix things before taking them into the saddle. I work with riders to help with body function and mental process, unblocking negative thought patterns, which can help so much with being stuck.
A partnership with a horse is very special. Taking time to really notice what is going on for you in relation to the horse develops self-awareness and helps you to understand how you function.
Developing your relationship with your horse influences how you cope under pressure at competitions, hacking out, and knowing that your horse understands you and your aids is crucial to developing trust between you and for quick reactions when needed.

Winter is tough for many people. Short days and cold wet weather are a long way from the colours and warmth of summer, often leading to depression, or S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
The Countryside Counsellor
As the countryside counsellor, I fully understand that rural life is not easy and comes with a whole range of stressful situations. solo working can be lonely, with no-one to share
worries and concerns, anxiety can take hold, and affect your self-confidence and self-worth.
As an equestrian professional myself, having been a riding instructor for many years, I understand this world and how tough it can be, especially in the long, cold and dark winter months.
Losing a beloved horse or pet can be devastating, as can taking the decision to end their life if they are suffering. Letting go is so difficult, and finding support through tis dreadful experience really helps.
Coping with Injury
Personal injury is common, and can be hard to deal with if you are a fit and active person. Physical jobs such as vets, farriers, farmers, horse trainers, for example, demand physical fitness and stamina: injury can knock this for six, and the mental impact of not being able to do what you need to can knock you for six.

I offer eco therapy at my practice in Market Lavington. We will discuss on our initial therapeutic counselling session if this would be an option for you.
What is Eco Therapy?
The counselling room is a great place to be, but the therapeutic counselling process can be experienced outside. The outdoor space becomes a living environment, and adds another dimension to therapy. It provides a neutral space for us to work and to develop the therapeutic relationship. Observations about the surroundings, weather conditions can be valuable additions and enrichment of your own journey.

I offer mediation sessions at my practice in Market Lavington.
What is meditation?
Meditation helps you to recognise your own thoughts and anxiety , and enables you to deal with adverse feelings earlier, building self-confidence and self-esteem, and ability to cope with stressful situations. Meditation is about enjoying the moment and to see yourself in a kind and positive way.
Learning techniques that can be used for a short time each day can help to introduce calmness into your life, reducing the body’s signs of stress such as high blood pressure, feelings of panic, shortness of breathe and so on. Meditation promotes a holistic feeling of well-being for both mind and body.
What happens in a session?
We will check your posture and focus on your breath to start with to calm your mind- and to slow down a ‘busy’ brain. We will work through the body releasing tension, aiming for a deep sense of peace and relaxation. We will spend some tome on relaxing each part of the body in turn, focusing on breathing techniques. You will be guided through a mediation scene, such as walking through a garden to help you to mentally relax and to bring about a sense of calm, like a daydream. We all have a special place to remember where we felt happy and relaxed.
Meditation can help to:
- Reduce anxiety
- Balance mind, body and soul
- Promote self-healing
Stressful situations such as a visit to the dentist, sitting in traffic jams etc can be managed in a calmer way with meditation techniques, enabling you to keep your cool when under pressure! Performance anxiety, such as making a speech or taking part in a competition can be significantly reduced with meditative techniques.
Sessions cost £40 (50 minutes) individual, or share with a friend.
