Counselling with Horses
Horses have been part of my life for many years, since I was a little girl. They are my best friends, but also my work colleagues in both the equestrian world and in mental health. Through a long career as a dressage competitor and coach, I have established a deep understanding of both people and horses.
Horses have helped me heal through tough times, and I understand how special my horses can be in my psychotherapy practice.
The presence of a horse in psychotherapy adds another dimension to exploring what you bring to counselling sessions. I work with adults (over 18 years old) on a one-to-one basis.
How I work
With my model of Counselling with Horses we work on an energetic, intuitive level on issues that you bring to your counselling sessions. Your wellbeing is my priority, and I use my skills to offer a unique experience to clients. We spend time in the presence of the horse, observing and sensing their responses to you. There is no need for physical contact, just connection.
Here is a short film to show how I use horses in therapy:
Would you like to feel calmer, less anxious? Get to know your nervous system, working with me and my horses as part of on-going counselling. Being highly sensitive animals, sessions will be guided by the horse’s willingness to engage with you and what this brings to the session. We will always respect the horse’s perspective
As part of on-going psychotherapy, counselling with horses can help with:
- Relational difficulties
- Attachment issues
- Eating Disorders
- Self-awareness
- Trauma
- PTSD
- Unresolved grief
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety
- Depression
As an equestrian author, I have written several books on training, and The Psychology of Horsemanship .
